2014 favorites – another shortlist

2014 favorites - shortlist

Hello beauties,

As I read that planet Mercury is retrograde until February, I believe it is a good time to revive, refresh, review, etc. So I realized that a year has passed and I did not share with you my shortlist of favorite products from 2014. So, without further notice, here are my four products that I favored in 2014 and if the case, I would take with me on a deserted island or (if the adventure is not that Robinson Crusoe style) in an normal baggage:

  • Urban Decay Naked 3 makeup palette – in general,Urban Decay has nice products but some of them has succeeded into making cult products. Naked palettes have been around for a while, during which every women has decreeded her favorite. There are three words that sum up my review for my Naked 3: I love it! For the full review click here.
  • Bioderma Sensibio AR face cream – I have used this face cream on and off over a year and it has been a faithful friend in need in times of stress and face redness (click here for the full review)
  • Soap&Glory Sexy Mother Pucker lip-gloss – I haven’t actually reviewed this lipstick but I have mentioned it passing by (see here a sample) although it deserves a full review – it ads a really sexy gloss, it has very nice natural colors, and (the major plus ) it hydrates the lips incredibly well (so well that I renounced my lip moisturizer)
  • Morrocanoil treatment for fine hair – an interesting product, which literally saved my hair when I started my blonde journey. I would recommend it for anyone that colours her hair or just has a dry hair

What are your favorites from 2014?

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

MaxFactor Miracle Touch

Hello beauties!

Since I’ve been back from my August holiday the first thing I did was a shopping session in search for a foundation one tone darker that my usual one. So this is how I found MaxFactor Miracle Touch Liquid Illusion Foundation (in Blushing Beige 55 shade). And how ironic is that my previous foundation was also from MaxFactor (you can see it here). Apparently I’ve become hooked on their products. The main difference with this Miracle Touch is that is closer to a creamy foundation and it comes in a pot with an application sponge (which is not bad, by the way, if you are in a hurry and don’t want to mess your hands and there’s no brush handy).

  • texture: in between cream and liquid foundation
  • dewy &silky finish
  • medium coverage
  • buildable
  • quite resistant – no cracks, no melting down, it can resist successfully during an 8 hours working day
  • no oxidation signs noticed or any breakouts caused by the product

  • I expected a lot more product in such a large pot; apparently 11,5g is not that much
  • very low color diversity at the stand
  • no SPF
  • the package does not have the ingredients written on it

Overall, I’m impressed by this foundation and the quality that MaxFactor has started to deliver in it’s products. And since it’s Autumn it would be a nice alternative for your daily foundation.

Morrocan Oil Repair Conditioner

Hello beauties!

Lately I’m quite focused on hair-care, and, while it is not a bad thing per se, it generally scandalizes my boyfriend in regards with all the shopping I do and how his shelf in the bathroom is slowly but steady diminishing in favor of this new products. Well, as one would say, life is not fair…

Also, I’m not fully convinced to that is good to stick with a hair product for a long time, especially if that product did not perform miracles. Not that I have any problems with my hair whatsoever, just that I have been coloring it blonde for almost a year now. So, establishing the terms, I’ve upgraded my conditioner to this one from Morrocan Oil.

One word of advice, because the brand has so much hype around it, pay attention to the fakes out there, especially if you purchase the product online.

  • claims a strengthening formula that has anti-oxidant rich argan oil, reconstructive keratin and fatty acids
  • it leaves my hair soft and manageable
  • very thick texture
  • helps de-tangle the hair in a gentle way
  • nice fragrance

  • pricey; especially considering the small bottle (250 ml)
  • of course it’s not going to make your hair look like a commercial

In terms of performance I haven’t noticed any unheard-of results better than any average mask/conditioner but that’s what marketing is all about. Nevertheless it’s a product I would recommend for you to try if you have some money to burn.

Leave a short comment describing your experience with this product if you had one.

Melkior Mosaic Powder

Hello beauties!

I love summer, and , although I’m not a bronzing fan (actually I’m a protection freak, high SPF lotion, hat, sunglasses, the whole picture) I must admit the nice effect an illuminating powder has on a nicely tanned skin. But what about mosaic powders?

Mosaic powder has three or more shades of blush, bronzer and illuminating powder. When I saw this one from Melkior I said I got to have it. It’s been almost seven months since I’ve been using it and I love it.

  • for a soft and natural aspect you can apply it with a normal brush made from natural hair; for a more dramatic look, you can use the wet brush as well
  • you don’t need to tap any excess off as the compact is made so well that it releases just the right amount for a soft finish
  • very blendable

  • if used how it is the lighter shade is almost non-existent for a night dramatic look and you really have to build a lot
  • it does fade a little at the end of the day

My rating: 7.5/10. I would totally recommend this product as an illuminating powder for any type of skin.

NYX Love in Paris

nyxMy first experience with NYX eye-shadows was not a very fortunate one as I was in search of a dupe after a MAC taupe single eye-shadow. But this is a story for other time. Bottom line, I gave NYX another chance with their palettes and I was not disappointed.

This is a palette from NYX Spring 2013 collection so it’s not new but I had a chance to buy it recently at a discounted price and I’ve been using it ever since in different occasions: at work, at different parties or clubs and even at a baptism party.

  • out of the 9 shades that the palette contains the size of a post stamp, you have many possibilities for different natural or smokey eyes makeup looks
  • blended properly, these color will resist flawlessly up to 12 hours of hard conditions (yes, there was such a party)
  • smooth and pigmented
  • great for travelling, but mostly for short weekends

  • being limited to only 9 nude colors (out of which only 2 grays, the rest are brown nude-ish variations) you can easily get bored

My rating: 7.5/10. If you come across this palette just give it a try and let me tell you how was your personal experience.

I’m a big fan of MUFE products and honestly since I’ve discovered this HD powder nothing has been the same in terms of loose powder. This truly is  the true Holy Grail of finishing powders and has become part of my everyday makeup ever since I’ve bought it (click: here).

  • you don’t use it for coverage, it’s strictly a finishing powder and this is what it does best: it will set your makeup, it will make your skin look a lot softer and matte
  • you only need a tiny amount of powder (otherwise it will make your face look cakey)  for covering the whole face
  • didn’t cause any breakouts for me
  • perfect for that super blended and soft focused look
  • one shade, independent of your skin type and color

  • never ever use it when you are going to be photographed
  • pretty expensive

My rating: 9/10. Overall, it’s a smart product that helps you achieve that sophisticated look and if you want to try it on a medium term I would recommend to purchase the smaller size pot.

One of the greatest fake-its: Benefit Benetint

I must say that I have had my doubts against Benetint. I mean, cheek and lip stain? What are we, 15th century? Well, it is a much loved, talked and reviewed product and I decided that a little vintage drama would be nice to try.

The packaging is similar to the ones from nail polishes and somehow impractical. The product’s consistency is watery but very pigmented and needs a quick and vigorous blending as it dries very quickly.

The final color is a gorgeous pink. If it is on your lips or on your cheeks, the intensity can be controlled by you, depending on how much product you apply.

On my cheeks, a little dab looks very natural and it lasts nicely all day long; the plus: it gives discreet blushing and very subtle contouring like a Photoshop effect. On my lips I have to back the Benetint color with an colorless gloss or lipstick .

Benetint did not replace any of my current products but it has a practical advantage of multi-purpose for us busy working gorgeous gals.

My rating: 8/10.

Let me know your Benetint experience..

Until next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

NYX The Caribbean Collection

Hello ladies! I hope your spring has been so far of beautiful surprises.
Mine surely is as I have recently found out my childhood friend is going to marry next year in June and I’m so happy for her.

Talk about surprises – this NYX palette was bought in a sale rush ( I know, it’s not smart shopping, but be honest at least and say you like those too) not knowing what to expect. I understand now that the color combination is vast in the Caribbean Collection but the one I chose it is called Dream of Aruba. This is an incredible collection of neutral colors and this palette has becomed part of my daily makeup routine because it is so easy to work with. It’s a no-brainer!

The pallete contains a copper, a rusty red, a gold, a bronze and a yellowish taupe shadow. All have a very nice shimmer and they are perfect for whatever event you are using them ( work, a night out, etc).

– highly pigmented
– soft texture
– long lasting
– hypoallergenic
– package is perfect for travel

– you’d better use them with a primer
– sponge applicator is useless

Overall, this is a product that I would recommend having it around in your makeup drawer.

My rating: 8/10.

A witch and a tree

My first memory of a Boots product is that of a blue lip balm, a present from my father from his London business trip. I was five or six at that time but I clearly remember the feel-good and moisturing that product had. So, it’s a thing with me and Boots products.

I’ve bought Tea Tree Witch Hazel Face Wash without a clear thought on my mind. The package looked good, the price was reasonable and the fresh smell was comforting. When I arrived at home, in the intimacy of my bathroom, just me and the face wash reflected in the mirror, I had a big surprise: the foam was gentle and efficient, the dosage was precise, the skin was neither dry neither red after this washing. So I said to myself: dear, you are native smart shopper!

Until then, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

Sunday pampering

I have developed this habit, that Sunday morning is my pampering day. I stay in bead, have my coffee, read and put on a face mask.

APIVITA masks have become one of those kind of products that I buy without too much thought: apart from the fact that they say their products are free of parabens and so on (although recently I’ve read that this is mostly bogus), these masks natural contain ingredients that help your skin to be firm, to stay hydrated and to radiate beauty.

They come in 40 ml containers but, as their price is quite steep for Romania, you can also purchase them in two-sachets-in-a-pack.This package also is very good for travelling.

Lately, I’ve been stuck on this Express Gold Firming and Regenerating Mask with two main ingredients: royal jelly for cell regeneration and a combination of honey, wheat proteins and neroli essential oil for skin revitalizing. Only 10 minutes on your face  with this masks and you’l feel like 20 again. Good thing about these masks: no tingling, no drying, just a creamy soft sensation without leaving a greasy skin.

If you have not tried it, do yourself a favor and go buy one. Afterwards, let me tell you how it was your experience.

Until next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)
