March empties

image

Hello beauties,

Another month comes close to an end and it’s time for another empties list. What I like about this kind of post, apart from a nice retrospective on some reviews (because I don’t come up with the time to review all products that I’m using), is the highlight it gives on my preferences and their evolution.
For instance this month I’ve discovered I use a lot of hand cream (basically each time after I wash my hands) and I’m in constant search for a better product even if that means a more expensive one.
Without further due, here goes the empties list:

Body:
Nivea Cream Care shower cream – as I always say, when in doubt use Nivea. Their recent addition to the shower gels&creams collection is a nice creamy product that comes with the vlassic Nivea scent and it does not dry your skin after using it, so it cannot go wrong. The trouble with Nivea is that it can get a little bit borring sometimes and then we migrate in along the aisles of the supermarket in search of another adventurous product.
Bottega Verde Argan del Marocco hand cream – this product is something I usually would not buy from a drugstore as it’s price is almost double than a regular one. But I was impressed that the quality was decent and the fragrance was surprisingly pleasant (as you know, I’m not a fan of scented products). Overall I would give this product another try soon and made me curious for Bottega Verde products.
Garnier Intensive Repair hand cream – another hand cream finishrd this month (maybe because it was so cold for a long time) but this one was not impressive at all, maybe only in size as it’s bigger than most of handcreams found in a drugstore. Apart from that, I didn’t feel my hands very hydrated despite their used of word “intense” and the perfume (a little bit cheap for my taste but in a lower quantity would have been ok without me being called a snob) contradicts the “dermatologically tested” claim. I have nothing against Garnier products in general but this one did not do it for me.
Sephora nail polish base – it is a multi-action base for strengthening and smoothing the nails; the product has been in my drawer for quite some time and it was the moment for us to part but when it comes to Sephora nail products I always am pleased with the result

Hair:
Clear Anti-Dandruff Intense Hydratation shampoo – this shampoo is a recent discovery for me; for a while I have used an organic shampoo that did nothing good for my hair but it made it dry and my scalp itchy. It took me a while to realize that it was the shampoo to blame and in the rush of the momen I’ve bought this one from Clear. It proved to be a decent shampoo and a bit effective as my scalp stopped itching so it’s something I’m going to buy again in the future.
Syoss Shine Boost conditioner –  I have been using this condioner for a while ( yeah, it’s a big bottle) first on a regular basis at home but after a while I have used it only when washing my hair after gym class. That being said, you can guess it was a miss as I haven’t noticed any extra shine or increased moisturizing so this will not be a repurchase.

Face:
Apidermin face cream – as it is not the first jar of this cream consumed I will not linger on, just point out that during winter this cream can at times be a miracle but as the summer aproaches the high amount of vaseline can be a minus.
Uriage Roseliane – I have previously talked about this face cream (click here for the full review), as for me it didn’t work. It’s silicone texture and lack of moisturizing made me decide I will not buy this face cream in the future. Probably for a normal skin type and less problems than mine this would work wonders.

Makeup:
E.L.F. Brow Kit – this product was reviewed a while back (click here for the story) and I have not changed my mind since. It’s a nice kit for your eyebrows, it’s not expensive and I would recommend it for everybody as a starting point
Benefit They’re Real mascara – With Benefit products I have tried so hard to grow into liking them but I had sucess only in such a few cases. I am sorry that this mascara also did not work for me despite it’s good reviews found on numerous blogs but a spiky wand did not make my eyelashes long or/and full of volume and I really don’t see the point in wasting money when you can get the same effect for less. I would give them credit that the named wand it gave my eyelashes enough separation but I did not feel it build and I was always afraid of poking my eye with it. Probably it’s a personal experience but mine was not comfortable.

I look forward for April to begin as I have new and pretty products to review for you.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

MAC Rebel lipstick

image

Hello beauties,

One recent hype in the beauty world has been the dark lipstick. And because not many of us are blessed with the perfect complexion that will accept an extreme grunge look I’ve been trying to find a compromise. Especially that I’m a fan of hot and soft pink lipsticks. And MAC Rebel proved to meet my wishes.

Pros:
– the color (a rick dark berry) will suit most of fair and medium skins;
– the opaque finish makes it suitable for any cosy day and can be part of a transitional makeup look;
– the product is not advertised as longwearing but it stays successfully on the lips 5 hours or more;
– when you apply it, the texture feels soft and creamy.

Cons:
– the price is steep, but if you buy MAC you already knew that;
– because of the longwear properties at some point it feels dry on the lips.

I love this lipstick and although I’ve bought it in January, I’m almost halfway through so it’s a hit for me. The best thing to be mentioned: this shade is part of their permanent collection so if you run out of it, there’s more where that came from.

What are yor thoughts on MAC lipsticks? Have you tried this shade?

Aussie Miracle Shine Shampoo

image
Hello beauties,

A month ago I went to London for a weekend and one of my must-visit places was of course Boots, a landmark for many beauty blogers.
I have been targeting this shampoo for a while as lately I have been into organics shampoos and they have not been doing much good to my blonde colored hair as I have been feeling it a little dry. I was drawn by this shampoo because it’s been it is said it contains Australian Ginseng extract and Pearl powder, that helps to revitalize tired, dull hair. And when it comes to haircare I’m your gal.

Pros:
– it does a very nice cleaning job without too much foam
– does not dry the scalp
– it does not entagle the hair as many other shampoos do
– the scent is very pleasant
– an affordable product
– very nice package

Cons:
– I was really hoping to see some shine but without any conditioner or masks my hair is pretty dull
– the ingredients list contains sulfates and some irritants.

Overall, it’s a nice drugstore shampoo that I would recommed you to buy if looking for a quick pick-me product.

L’Oreal Super Liner Extra Black Gloss

image
Hello beauties,

As the sunny spring atmosphere is unravelling our makeup looks should be easy and on the natural side. This doesn’t mean that we should let go of everything we love, but addapt it. Like the cat-eye look. Creating the perfect eyeliner flick has been a subject of debate for so long now and everyone of us has joined the discussion regarding the product that will achieve that.

I somehow was bored with the three black eyeliners I already had so I’ve decided to try is the one from L’Oreal, Super Liner Extra Black Gloss. The product is a liquid eyeliner pen with a soft sponge tip with a semi-glossy finish.

Pros:
– does not smudge or flake after 8 hours of wearing it
– due to the soft sponge tip, the application it’s super easy
– it is removed well at the end of the day

Cons:
– the black color is not that intense, somehow watery
– I mentioned that the finish is semi-glossy compared with other eyeliners (Inglot, for example)
– the tip is a littl large for a fine pointed flick if you intend a sofisticated cat-eye makeup
– for every time you use it the applicator goes dry so quickly that it’s annoying the whole in and out of the tube motion for moisturizing the tip of the eyeliner.

Overall, the product is not mind-blowing but it’s ok: reasonably priced and adequate for a quick make-up look.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade

image

Hello beauties,

As the Instagram is full of makeup looks with strong brows and  I am assuming you we’ren’t living under a rock not no hear about Anastasia Beverly Hills, for a couple of months I surrendered myself to the Dipbrow Pomade hype. Currently I have the Blonde shade that’s perfect both for filling and shaping my brows.

Pros:
– The product has a thick cream consistency and you’re going to have to use an angled brush for application, which will increase the precision and lead to a nice final result
– on their local online store they have 8 shades available, that can pretty much accomodate most of brows
– it sets very fast, stays in place all day and does not smudge

Cons:
– as it comes in a jar the product it might become dry faster than I could use all of it
– you really have to be carefull not to over-do it as too much pomade can give you the impression of “drag queen look”
Overall I like this product, I do not think it’s overated and I would recommend it for your use. How about you, have you tried this product?

Soap & Glory Make Yourself Youthful CC Cream Superfluid

image

Hello beauties,

Warm weather is here and our makeup should gradually evolve accordingly. One of the best tricks in our sleeves in terms of makeup is the CC cream. I’m a devoted fan of this product as I use it at least half of the week in any coverage it comes and in any makeup combination. Recently visiting London, I coudn’t help myself with a little pampering and I’ve bought from Boots this Soap & Glory Make Yourself Youthful CC Cream Superfluid SPF15 and I have been using it on and off for a month now.

Pros:
– light texture – indeed superfluid as it feels more like a serum than a CC cream or a foundation
– light coverage – it is light enough to look like a second skin
– color correct – it does cover and correct most skin aberations (irritation, discoloration
– color addapt – the product seems darker than it actually looks on the skin
– package – the CC cream comes in a metalic -like opaque tube with a pump, decorated in Soap&Glory’s funny style

Cons:
– duration – it lasts about 4 hours on my face
– sun protection – the product states that it has SPF 15 (which is low enought) but I would not count solely on that protection.
– application – the bottle splurts too much out with only one pump so most of the time you waste a lot of product
– the product comes in only two shades

Soap and Glory is probably one of favourite beauty brands and most of their products left we with a feeling of well-defined. So on the overall, this CC cream it’s a nice product that I would recommend for others to try. What is yor opinion about it?

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way;-)

February empties

imageHello beauties,

Are you ready for spring? Are you ready for a new stage in your existence? I propose to you a deal – try at least 5 minutes every day to practice gratitude for what you have, for the people around you and for what you are. Spring might help you do that, out with the old, in with the new.

Now, let’s see what we are leaving behind in February and what are we to keep for the future.

Body:

  • Bulgari Omnia Ametiste EDT – I wanted only to mention this fragrance as Omnia perfumes were one of my favorites (and still are) from Bulgari and I’m sorry to let this one go as I have enjoyed every scented drop. If you have not tried it maybe it’s time you should.
  • Dove Pomegranate & Lemon Verbena scent antiperspirant – when looking for a drugstore antiperspirant that will not cause you itches and irritations (see an example here) you might take this one into consideration.

Hair:

  • Artego Easy Care Magic Color shampoo – because I liked Artego’s Root Lifter, a couple of months ago I’ve decided to buy this shampoo for a smart maintenance of my blonde hair. It was a little bit disappointing as I felt my hair became a little dry after using this shampoo; actually not only the hair but also the scalp and so begun a period during which I started looking for solutions against a problem I have never faced before. So this is a product I would actually not recommend and will not repurchase.
  • MoroccanOil Restorative Hair Mask – this mask is a product that I absolutely love and has saved my hair from the first moemnt. When I have bought the full size product, the merchant also send me this smaller size tube that I have emptied first. You can read the full review of the product here.

Face:

  • Nivea 3 in 1 Micelar Cleaning Water – somehow I’m sorry I did not make a full review of this product as I believe it is a decent micelar water (alongside Bioderma and L’Oreal): it is apparently a well formulated product (fragrance free, it does not irritate the skin nor cause any outbreaks and it does nor dry the skin) that can do a decent cleaning job (but I would not recommend it as a sole method of cleaning the makeup and other things that remain on your skin but to combine it with a cleansing milk or a cleaning face wash or – better – both). Overall, thumbs up.
  • Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus wrinkle correcting eye cream – this was one of the big samples I was telling you about here and I got the chance of using it over a course of two weeks (during which I’ve applied it generously, otherwise it would have lasted longer). Both sample and full sized product come in jars (which is a con); it is a rich moisturizing cream that promises a lot – it does deliver a de-puffed eye area (if your problems are not congenital), a skin more firm and faded wrinkles. If this cream will be sold in a tube I would buy it in a blink. Otherwise it was a nice try.
  • Clinique Repairwear Uplifting Firming cream -another Clinique sample, another happy try (and just that). Another rich, moisturizing product from Clinique that does an incredible job, it’s fragrance free like all of their products but also comes packed in a jar that make this a total waste of money. Such a pity.

Makeup:

  • KIKO Skin Tone Corrector Primer – Definitely this will be a repurchase, first occasion comes, because it is a good product at a fair price. For a full review click here.

Bioderma Hidrabio Riche

bioderma hydrabio

Hello beauties,

During winter or any other cold periods our skin needs a different care and attention to protect, hydrate and maintain a good condition. Apart from exercise, drinking water and eating healthy, a good face cream can work wonders (but pay attention that all elements are both equal in importance and one cannot be excluded from this list).

Lately I’ve been trying my luck with Bioderma Hidrabio Riche.

Pros:

  • packaging – the 40 ml product comes in a tube with a pump dispenser
  • fragrance free
  • creamy texture, the skin feels soft and moisturized after using it – it is true that when I started using this product my dry skin patches were flakey and dull (I call it “snake skin effect”) that disappeared completely after two days with Bioderma

Cons:

  • no sunscreen protection
  • apparently it contains some alcohol which makes me think the formula is not as genius as they claim it to be

I have been using this face cream for about two weeks now but mostly in combination with a retinol and I’m not sure about the counter effects so apparently it seems that it works but for me it will not be a repurchase as much as I would have loved to.

Have you used this face cream? Leave a short comment below with your experience.

Two shades of obsession

imageHello beauties,

Valentines Day is long gone and so is the excitement of Fifty shades of Grey (both the movie and the book) but both aspects have raised a legit question in my mind: over the last two months I’ve been stuck in my own obsession, this time regarding lipsticks – am I so comfortable in my circle of trust made of red and fuchsia?

Times teaches that you don’t have to know it all and mastering makeup does not necessarily end with the perfect smokey eye or a la carte Kardashian contouring. It’s the chic element that comes into play, a natural luminous makeup and a perfect applied lipstick and lipliner, all of it to soften the cold outside and to make things easy-going.

  • Red – I’ve been using a red lipgloss from Essence, XXXL Longlasting, a matt effect lipgloss in shade 07 Silky Red. It’s a bright red, intensely pigmented product that doesn’t look really dry on the lipsticks. Because it has the tendency to fade after three or four hours (which involve some drinking, eating and other cultural activities) I’ve been hooking this product with Rimmel Lasting Finish lip contouring pencil in shade 021 Red Dynamite which is somehow dry and increases the duration of the lipstick on the lips. The overall effect leads to somehow a pin-up makeup look.
  • Fuchsia – It is my go-to color and somehow it became my trademark over the years. recently I’ve bought the amazing Aqua Lip from Make Up For Ever in shade 16C, a genius product in my favorite color. This is a creamy non-transferable lipliner, easy to apply long lasting and fairly pigmented that can be used standalone or as an outline for lipsticks. If used alone, the effect is somehow drying over the hours but you can tap a little gloss from time to time to increase lip hydration. For a softer effect I’ve been applying the pencil all over my lips being careful at the outlining and afterward applying the Bourjois Color Boost chubby stick (read more about it here) for a lustrous effect.

Everything, from newspapers to Internet tell us that we should feel like stars (probably just to sell us a product or two). And maybe it’s time we did.

By the way, happy b-day to all of us as this blog has been online for 1 year now thanks to all of yoy, my dear and beautiful readers outthere.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

MaxFactor Facefinity Primer

10172329

Hello beauties,

During winter my sensitive face becomes impossible to handle: redness and dryness on my cheeks and the usual oily T zone plus the extreme oily eye lids. So it’s a circus with a constant fierce battle against forces of nature (pam-pam!). One of the key ingredients in this process is a good primer, and you know that I’m constantly trying new products in search for the perfect one but usually I end up using two kinds of primers (depending on the area that I apply) or just one targeting a specific zone. Recently, MaxFactor Facefinity Primer became available in Romanian stores and I (being a MaxFactor fan) decided to try it as it is basically MaxFactor 3 in 1 Facefinity Flawless Foundation but without the foundation and everybody is swearing by it.

Pros:

  • packaging – the product comes in a bottle with a pump dispenser, similar in appearance and size to the ones used for foundation
  • sun protection – you will benefit from the product’s SPF 20
  • texture – the product it feels silicone free but it does contain silicone and is slightly moisturizing
  • price – it’s a drugstore product, so you’ll probably save at least half the money you would have spent on POREessional or any other expensive primer for that matter

Cons:

  • does not perform wonders in terms of blurring the pores
  • it does prolong the wear of the foundation but I cannot count on it for an all-day-and-night marathon
  • does not interact well with some foundations – for instance if I’m using MUFE or La Roche Posay the oily skin will have different bulky sections that will not look good as an overall

As you might have guessed, I’m not impressed by this product but it may be a my skin is in constant battle against itself and a performing primer is a must; but it might not be such a hard case for normal skin types that will probably get along very easy with this product.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)
