January empties

image

Hello beauties,

You may have noticed that against all odds this January has been a busy month and for me it was at some point some extraordinary stress to accompany that. I believe this to be a warning signal for us to adapt to life’s new rhythm and take it easy especially when it seems impossible to do so.

Within this first month of 2015 there was a suspect number of products that came close to being part of this post so probably in February we’ll have a lot to talk about. But in this post I’e decided to include some products that were included as samples when purchased with other products from the same brand.

Nails:

  • Farmec Top Coat – not the first time to say it, but I like to say it anyway: this brand holds one or Romanian’s best products sold at a fair price. Their nail polishes found in stores and supermarkets are in a limited color gamma and their online store is only a bit better, nevertheless, with a few exceptions, I’m a mindless buyer when it comes to their products

Hair:

  • MorrocanOil Repair Conditioner – at the beginning of last year I started coloring my hair and, because I’m a natural blonde, going blonde all the way it seemed the right move for me to do. With blonde hair comes responsibility of constant caring for your locks, so this is how I started my love affair with Morrocanoil,  a brand that right now I would recommend without a flick. Conditioner it is a must in the beauty ritual and if you want to find out more, click here for the full review of this product.

Face:

  • KIKO Hydrating Mask – for the moment I’ve ended all KIKO masks that I had and until a new order from their online store or a visit to a country where their stores are like Starbucks I’m going to make a short break from their skincare products. The masks are very nice and have really sassy fragrances but currently my skin deserves more attention on the sensitive side. To make them justice click here for the full review.
  • Nivea Pure & Natural face cream – generally, I like Nivea’s products but this face cream was a total disappointment. In my defense, I was not the one to buy it, but my boyfriend bought it for me as an emergency measure for crashing at his place without any baggage. Lesson was learned, next time I will be more specific but I would not recommend this product further considering two major points: the fragrance was too much my skin could handle and the moisturizing effect was close to non-existent for the dry parts of my skin.
  • Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus -I spoke briefly about this serum here, but in the meantime I’ve started actually using it (for a couple of weeks, only in the evening) and really liked it as it felt an efficient addition to moisturizing process and I would want to try this product in full size.

Makeup:

  • Urban Decay Anti-aging Eyeshadow Primer Potion – this sample was part of my Naked 3 palette (see here the experience). I’ve used all this sample for the New Year’s Eve party makeup and if it wasn’t for such experience this sample would have been sufficient for two makeup looks. It didn’t make all the  wrinkles disappear but it lasted better than any of my other primers. Bottom line, when I came home in the morning my makeup was flawless and this product made it on my wishlist.
  • ELF Daily Brush Cleaner – another brand that I like, because you can find very good products at decent price. This product is a decent brush cleaner that will not ruin your wallet and is a good alternative for a quick sanitation of these utensils that we love so much. Click here for the full review.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

December empties and New Year’s Eve thoughts

image

Hello beauties,

It has been a long year and for me especially challenging. When I started this blog I just needed another project to invest my energy into and because beauty takes a lot of my energy, time and money, I just pinpointed to a beauty blog. But also my everyday life got complicated throughout the year and at times I found myself cringing in need for an extra hour so one of the important lessons I’ve started to learn through this blog was planning and time management. Also, another thing it came at my attention through this project was my natural tendency to do too much, too quickly, achieving fast results, a point taken on my 2015 objective list of “to improve”. Overall, it has been a year when I’ve learned a lot and I’m sharing a part of my lessons here, with all of you.

Now, that the introductions are done, let’s go through the December empties list and see if we have some new discoveries or not, what has failed or what has been a repurchase.

Face:

  • Bioderma Sensibio Anti-Redness – this face cream currently it’s on the top of my favorite face cream and I’ve been buying it throughout this year. You can read details about it here (full review) and here.
  • Soap&Glory Make Yourself Youthful Rejuvenating Face Serum – I am so sorry that this product is empty so quickly; it was used night and day with abundance, I have liked the results and I will definitely repurchase it when the occasion arises; you can read the full review here.
  • Cosmetic Plant Tonic Lotion with sea-buckthorn oil and olive oil – this tonic lotion was purchased with the thought of a gentle care for my sensitive skin due to numerous positive reviews from Romanian bloggers. Well, it wasn’t so gentle for my skin as expected and overall it had to much alcohol in composition that it had a drying effect so at one point I stopped using it and now I just want to throw it away. Bottom line, it will not be a repurchase for me and my advice for you is: don’t believe everything you read, be smart and choose wisely informed.

Nails:

  • Farmec Quick Dry nail spray –  this is a repurchase, you can read about it also here.
  • CARE Nail polish remover – this is a low cost own brand from Mega Image  superstores chain. Nothing special about it, but efficient.

Body:

  • Nivea cream – this is the classic Nivea cream and because it’s a classic- everybody must have used it at least once in our lifetime. Thus I did not consider it was the place for a review. I’ve used it every day for hand cream, instead of body cream or even face cream (when desperate times call for desperate measures) and it’s a winner. It is always by my side on and off and if you don’t have the same approach I recommend you to reconsider it.
  • Apidermin cream – Baby, it’s cold outside, and my skin doesn’t want to suffer. This thick cream with honey is very good for moisturizing (although it’s not for all types of skin) and always a good alternative for your usual face and body cream; you can also read about it here.

Hair:

  • Batiste dry shampoo – this is the Floral&Flirty Blush dry-shampoo from Batiste. It was a little bit too floral scented for my taste but nevertheless and I’ve noticed that it was a little drying if used for the second day hair, but overall it has achieved it’s purpose like any other Batiste dry shampoo. For the classic Batiste dry shampoo, you can read the full review here. Nevertheless, I will not buy again this version of Batiste due to the fragrance, but this scent may appeal to you as a pleasant one.
  • Wella Professionals Brilliance Treatment – it’s the third or forth time I’m emptying this Wella treatment, and as you have noticed, this is the kind of product that makes your money’s worth; you can read the full review here.

Makeup:

  • MaxFactor Miracle Touch – this creamy foundation I absolutely loved it and I’ve tried to buy it again but I haven’t been able to see it in stock at Sephora. Nevertheless I recommend it and I would buy it again without any second thought; you can read the full review here.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

September empties

image

Hello beauties!

What a busy month! First it was vacation for me, then coming back with an awful cold from the Florida’s beaches, then working like a mule to finish some projects. And still am, but that’s life and you have to enjoy every moment, no matter.

September has ended swiftly and I have a lot of empties to talk about. Unfortunately there are no makeup products in this list as lately it seems I’ve been buying a lot and never got the chance to concentrate a lot on finishing them.

Body:

  • Boots Mango & Papaya Body Cream – I’ve been telling you about this product in June (read: here) but I never had the chance of reviewing this body cream; well, the bottom line: great scent but not such a great product in terms of body cream – it has a low degree for moisturizing the skin which remains somehow sticky after using the cream. It consists in a mix between a gel and a cream – the gel is ok but sticky and the cream will hardly be absorbed into the skin. Not gonna buy this again
  • Nivea anti-perspirant Invisible for Black&White – it’s a classic, but better for winter than summer
  • Nivea Q10 Anti-Age hand-cream – really, for a drugstore brand, they deliver some of the best hand-creams and whenever I don’t know what to buy, Nivea would be the choice – medium priced but good quality.

Nails:

  • Farmec Quick Dry nail spray – Other brand I like and this product helps me every  week  when I’m doing my nails in the morning – it really speeds the nail polish drying  process. It is basically my first quick nail dry spray but it’s cheap and efficient and already has a refill in my bathroom.

Hair:

  • Wella Brilliance Treatment for fine to normal hair – you can read the review: here. And yes, I started using the refill:)

Face:

  • Beauty Formulas – Cleansing Nose Pore Strips – I try to use the nose pore strips once a week. This package has been bought from DM drugstore, it was a little bit expensive than the others and I was trying it for the first time. Overall, it didn’t seem that it does something extra or different than any other cleansing nose pore strips so nothing to review here.
  • Bioderma Sensibio AR – Probably you have noticed that this second bottle of this face cream that I’ve emptied but I’m convinced it’s a good one. I believe it to be perfect for summer days if you have sensitive or oily skin. Just give it a try.
  • Botanics – Cleansing Face Wipes All Bright – I’ve been using this face wipes when going to the gym (to clear the makeup before working out) and during my holiday, when I was too tired to wash my face (bad choice, I know, but I’m not perfect). Overall, I felt like they do a decent cleaning job but considering they are face wipes for sensitive skin they should never put perfume in them and although the material didn’t feel irritating my skin was a little bit red after using them. So, I have my doubts if I’m going to use them again.
  • Elmiplant Micelar Water – read my review: here. Overall, be smart and don’t waste your money on a product not worthy of them.

Yes, it has been a busy month, but I hope that the next month I’m going to have a diversified list:) Have a wonderful October!

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

June empties

Hello beauties!

It’s that time again: monthly empties. This month has been a lot about drugstore products that are quite accessible and some of the products on this list are a part of a conscious cleaning process I’ve been doing in my bathroom cabinet. I know I’m spending a lot of money on different beauty products but I try to keep the list of the products that I’m not actually using to a minimum. So, here’s the list

Hair:

  • L’Oreal Elseve Nutri Gloss Serum – this styling serum was a lot talked about when released. As you can see the bottle is not even half empty but it has been lying around in my bathroom for a while unused. The product was too much for me, made it too oily, but for a little extra shine half a drop it was ok but apparently not enough.
  • Kallos Placenta mask – this one was actually recommended to me by my mother for my colored hair. It is a decent drugstore mask, nice texture, low on perfume but I would not get my hopes that high as for the placenta thins, as they only have wheat extract so even if they don’t have the right ingredients dosage the product will not do you any harm. Anyway, Kallos are quite popular in Romania for their cheap products, so if you want to try it , you will not be leaving your children without college funds.
  • Dr. Wolf Plantur 39 for hair over forty – this shampoo it was recommended to me by my dermatologist doctor. It is a caffeine based product meant to stimulate the circulation on the scalp that would lead to at least a decrease in the hair loss. As a shampoo is not bad, especially if you have hair that becomes oily after a short while but I think it’s too early now to talk about the anti-hair loss effects just after the first emptied bottle.

Body:

  • Balea anti cellulite shower gel with caffeine and alga extract – this shower gel I’ve been using at the gym; it comes with a brush cap that is supposed to help you massage the skin affected by cellulite. In reality it was more like a scrub and I haven’t seen any effects against my cellulite.
  • Palmer’s Massage Cream for stretch marks – as these products are quite pricey in Romania for a drugstore line, I expected the best from Palmer’s. Also, if I’m not sure what to expect from a product I always choose the travel sized packages. I was right,  as this massage cream did absolutely nothing for my two new stretch marks recently appeared on my tummy.
  • Farmec body cream with argan – as much as I love Farmec products, and as far as I was hyped about finding a body lotion with argan oil, this product experience was a so an so. Maybe because I love my body lotions to have a thick texture which was not the case and it seems that neither on the moisturizing part it wasn’t that much.

Face:

  • Bioderma Sensibio H2O – this product was so much under bloggers review that I feel unjust in doing another one. It’s good, I always come back to it, no matter what I try and it has become part of my essentials list
  • Nivea Gentle Cleaning Wiped – I’m not a big fan of the cleaning wipes as I generally think they don’t do a very good job on clearing your skin of all the dirt and products, but I do use them and generally use them when going to the gym after working hours. These cleaning wipes I would not recommend because, contrary to the package claims, to my sensitive skin were quite aggressive.
  • Boots Tea Tree Witch Hazel Face Wash – a very good drugstore face wash that most likely will be repurchased (review: here)

Makeup:

  • Too Faced Lash Injection Pinpoint mascara – another product that I’ve found lying around. As much as I love Too Faced products this mascara was lousy and it was probably the reason that I’ve abandoned it so easily. The mascara was too dry, zero volume and a funky wand.If this mascara is still available in the stores, with my whole heart I tell you don’t waste your money on it.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

May empties

image

I can’t believe we are almost done with May and summer will be officially here.

If you ask me some of the products from this month’s empties list  I’m really glad that I’m done with. So:

Makeup – it’s a short list as I have been quite lazy in this aspect, buying more than using:
Peggy Sage concealer – I never got to review this concealer and maybe it’s better I did not. The color was not a perfect match and the consistency was a little bit watery. It didn’t really conceal anything, it only gave a funky coloration to the skin. I don’t want to repeat this experience again.
Bourjois Volume Glamor Max Definition mascara – at first I liked this mascara. But then it got flacky after a couple of hours of wearing it. And after three months it got a funky smell and I refused to wear it any longer. And this mascara is also surprisingly difficult to remove. For me, it was a fail.

Face products – the list is a mix of the good, the bad and the ugly:
Galenic micellar water (review: here) – I am determined to try some more Galenic products an their micellar water remains for me one of the most effective currently on the market.
Avene Antirougeurs Jour – I’ve used this product in seeking complementary products for my rosaceea. Also was approved by my dermathologist. I’m sorry to say that it didn’t have a visible effect on my condition and as a moisturizer, this is a poor product. After finishing this, I tried Rosaliac ( not the whole product but one week sample received at the local pharmacy) but also I was not convinced by the texture and efficiency.
KIKO Purifying Mask (review: here) – if you haven’t already tried their products just go get some as they are amazingly well formulated.
Farmec Aslavital Instant Lift intense repair serum – I’m a big fan of this local cosmetics brand as they are up to their promises and this product it is no different nonetheless. Applied each evening before the night cream, it makes your fine lines go away or diminish. The effects are quite long-lasting and I would buy this again when I will get the chance.

Hair&body:
Klorane dry shampoo (review: here) – it is without any doubt one of the best and currently my favorite.
Dove purely pampering (review: here) – I’m so glad this product is over as it was the first time in my life when I was trying to take a shower holding my breath. Literally. Instead I’ve bought a soap bar also from Dove that has been quite pleasant.
Eucerin PH5 Hand Cream – here, the travel-size version: nice hand-cream, very effective, pleasant smell. I think you should give it a try.
La Roche Posay Cicaplast (review: here) – very good cream; doe make a small difference in the scars appearance. And no, it’s not a substitute for laser.
Natura Ekos Pitanga perfume – if you travel to South America you might want to try Natura’s products, which is one of the local leading cosmetics companies. This perfume smells very exotic, very fresh and sexy and impressively long lasting.
– Other products: Tania shampoo (this is a cheap shampoo that I’ve been using in the last couple of weeks for thorough makeup brushes cleaning), polish remover (bought from Auchan, quite ok), Herbosophy intimate washing lotion,

What were your May empties?

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

March empties

image

Hey, lovely laddies!

Last week, I had an awful cold that kept me in bed quite a long time. Now, I’m back, full of energy for the lovely spring unfolding outside.

Empty products in March:

  • Body Shop Noix de Cocoa Beurre Corporel – I love these moisturizers: they are rich, full of delicious scents, leaving your skin of so happy, smooth, silky and glowing. Besides, what’s not to love about a body butter that has no sulfates, phthalates,  GMOs, or triclosan. The packaging is not so great, as I would have loved to have this product in a bottle with a pump, but given the consistency of the product and how great it is absorbed into the skin, I say it’s a minor one.
  • E.L.F. Mineral Foundation – this was not a favorite product: it did not have coverage, it was kindda cakey looking, the pot was quite small for the price paid for it. I generally used it as setting powder, but the product did not last very long on my face. The good side: it had SPF 15.  At the end, the product was sticking on the walls of the pot and it was annoying for me to use it until the last drop.
  • Essence I Love Extreme Mascara – I’ve bought this mascara as I’ve read numerous good reviews about it on Internet. Remember the saying: don’t believe everything you hear, right? It was one of the worst products ever: the wand had too much product, it clumped my lashes, and until the end of the day it was faking. After a couple of months since it was bought, the product came with a funny smell, so I’ve decided it was the end of it.
  • Farmec nail polish – as you all know by now, I love this brand. For beauty on budget, this is heaven. This nail polish is shade 351, a deep and rich red. It looks very good on nails, is ultra-resistant, and it’s easy to apply& remove.
  • Dove Essential Nourishment Hand Cream – unfortunately I forgot to keep this one product for the monthly photo. But, I can say that this is one of the best drugstore hand creams that I’ve tried. Very discreet scent, leaves skin moisturize and has good price, of course. What more do you want from this kind of product?
  • Salvatore Ferragamo Signiorina EDP – I loved this perfume for the times I wanted to feel very lady-like, with notes of pepper, jasmine, pink peony, rose, musk, patchouli and pannacotta. It was sweet but in the same time, pleasing and not an overwhelming scent. I would definitely buy this again.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)
