Make-up Forever

Two shades of obsession

imageHello beauties,

Valentines Day is long gone and so is the excitement of Fifty shades of Grey (both the movie and the book) but both aspects have raised a legit question in my mind: over the last two months I’ve been stuck in my own obsession, this time regarding lipsticks – am I so comfortable in my circle of trust made of red and fuchsia?

Times teaches that you don’t have to know it all and mastering makeup does not necessarily end with the perfect smokey eye or a la carte Kardashian contouring. It’s the chic element that comes into play, a natural luminous makeup and a perfect applied lipstick and lipliner, all of it to soften the cold outside and to make things easy-going.

  • Red – I’ve been using a red lipgloss from Essence, XXXL Longlasting, a matt effect lipgloss in shade 07 Silky Red. It’s a bright red, intensely pigmented product that doesn’t look really dry on the lipsticks. Because it has the tendency to fade after three or four hours (which involve some drinking, eating and other cultural activities) I’ve been hooking this product with Rimmel Lasting Finish lip contouring pencil in shade 021 Red Dynamite which is somehow dry and increases the duration of the lipstick on the lips. The overall effect leads to somehow a pin-up makeup look.
  • Fuchsia – It is my go-to color and somehow it became my trademark over the years. recently I’ve bought the amazing Aqua Lip from Make Up For Ever in shade 16C, a genius product in my favorite color. This is a creamy non-transferable lipliner, easy to apply long lasting and fairly pigmented that can be used standalone or as an outline for lipsticks. If used alone, the effect is somehow drying over the hours but you can tap a little gloss from time to time to increase lip hydration. For a softer effect I’ve been applying the pencil all over my lips being careful at the outlining and afterward applying the Bourjois Color Boost chubby stick (read more about it here) for a lustrous effect.

Everything, from newspapers to Internet tell us that we should feel like stars (probably just to sell us a product or two). And maybe it’s time we did.

By the way, happy b-day to all of us as this blog has been online for 1 year now thanks to all of yoy, my dear and beautiful readers outthere.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

Makeup Forever HD Foundation

Hello beauties!

After buying this product, I wanted to try it right away. This foundation was appraised as one of the best from the top best foundations. In fact when makeup artists rave about this product over and over you tend to believe them and somehow you are tempted to give a product more chances than it actually deserves.

It didn’t wow me. In fact, the first time I’ve used it I was so horrified about the results (a dark running foundation film on my skin that looked like a bad joke) that I refused to use it for a while and it remained forgotten somewhere in the drawer and the makeup artists remained with their 17 years old models with flawless faces to apply makeup on. Because, not like us, they get it for free.

Generally, I’m a person with a high degree in perseverance. At some point I felt ashamed  for spending a lot of money on a product that I was never going to use. An started my trial and error process: with my fingers – not working; with the dry sponge – not working; with wet egg-shaped sponge – nor working; with the foundation brush – not working; with the buffing brush – not working; with the stippling brush – working.

Wait, what? Yes, it is the dark little secret of this product and my post-trial search on the Internet confirmed my observations: a nice a la carte manual stippling made the foundation absorbed by the skin and the result can be a medium coverage with smooth looking skin and a little bit sheer. I’m still not impressed by this foundation, as I think it requires the double amount of work for applying it than a normal one and the soft focus result is not that soft focus. Nevertheless, the product lasts all day long on the face without any crack and I didn’t notice my oily areas become oily throughout the day.

I will not rate this product, as I believe this product looks good on a skin without any problem or fine line, but for the average mature women, I would not recommend it as the hype for this foundation comes true only for a niche of the consumers.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

I’m a big fan of MUFE products and honestly since I’ve discovered this HD powder nothing has been the same in terms of loose powder. This truly is  the true Holy Grail of finishing powders and has become part of my everyday makeup ever since I’ve bought it (click: here).

  • you don’t use it for coverage, it’s strictly a finishing powder and this is what it does best: it will set your makeup, it will make your skin look a lot softer and matte
  • you only need a tiny amount of powder (otherwise it will make your face look cakey)  for covering the whole face
  • didn’t cause any breakouts for me
  • perfect for that super blended and soft focused look
  • one shade, independent of your skin type and color

  • never ever use it when you are going to be photographed
  • pretty expensive

My rating: 9/10. Overall, it’s a smart product that helps you achieve that sophisticated look and if you want to try it on a medium term I would recommend to purchase the smaller size pot.

Make Up For Ever – Smoky Extravagant Mascara

I don’t talk easily about mascaras. This is a sensitive subject as I am a person with short blonde eyelashes and paying attention at what goes on in the mascara department is quite a must. As for any other makeup junkie out there. Why MUFE? Just to go outside of the drugstore routine sometimes we all form.

Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara was launched last year and it’s supposed to give you volume, length and curl.

I’ve been using this mascara for almost three months now. At first I was not impressed. At all. But after a while it somehow grew on me as being a decent product on a higher price.

  • nice separation
  • very easy to work with their cone brush
  • no smudging, smearing or flaking
  • it gives medium volume – if you are not targeting that drag queen look, it’s quite all right
  • it lasts all day long flawlessly

  • they say this mascara has the darkest pigment on the market. I think that’s very subjective when you have 3 lashes on your eyelid.
  • no extra length nor extra curl added to the lashes

My rating: 7.5 or 8 /10 (depends on the context. Would I buy it again? If I’m feeling generous with myself, yes; otherwise, stick to the drugstore mascaras, as they will deliver basically the same result.

MakeUp For Ever HD Primer

Not so long ago, I started a new approach in my quest for a smart beauty buying process: shop small quantities that you can usually find as collections of core products to decide if that product is worth the trouble and the money, as they often don’t come cheap.

Also, in my makeup bag you will always find at least 5 or 6 primers as  I like to swap products regularly but I basically focus on products that are super easy to apply, either give you that super health glow or have a lot of silicone in order for my oily prone skin to be tamed.

MUFE HD microperfecting primer seemed perfectly integrated into this picture.

– it’s skin super-friendly with a light texture that doesn’t choke every cell on your face
– versatile package: plastic bottle with a little pump that gives you just the right amount of primer to cover the whole face

– don’t get your hopes high, it’s an  expensive product.
– it doesn’t make my everyday makeup look any better or last longer than without a primer
– no plus regarding oil control either; actually it is like applying the makeup just after the moisturizer.

My rating:6/10 (as I give them benefit of a doubt that there are people who actually like this primer).

Stop by to share your thoughts about MUFE HD primer.

Until next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

Guilty pleasures

Today I am a happy person. And because I am a happy person, I felt like celebrating: went for brunch with friends, did a small walk and also bought myself a gift. Well, lately I’ve been buing a lot of gifts, but this is another story.

The package you see in the picture above it’s a Makeup Forever package with some of their so called “cult products” that includes quite a lot of goodies: a HD primer and foundation, a HD setting powder, a charcoal black eye pencil and a mascara, all in travel-like size and instructions. From all of those, my eyes have been set on the HD setting powder for a while and today as the spring day was sunny and I was high on caffeine, I said, what the heck and bought the damn thing. I will come back with a review for each product soon enough.

Until then, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)
