NYX Soft Matte Istanbul Lip Cream

Hello beauties,

As April is my favorite month of the year (for the obvious reasons involving sun and nature reborn) I wanted to treat myself with something in accordance with all the happiness and easy going nature all around me. And buying a new lipstick is always a good idea (it’s the same like buying new shoes but cheaper) so I made a haul with NYX (guess you’ll see a lot of those reviewed soon). Among those bought, one alone became preferred: Soft Mate Lip Cream in shade Istanbul, a neutral soft pink matte lipstick.

– the color – is perfect for light skinned girls, perfect for spring and summer, perfect for any natural makeup look or versatile enough for any other composition
– the texture – it’s creamy enough (but if you ask me I’m not awed)
– the price – I’m starting to think that NYX is a honest company most of the time in terms of pricing strategy as the products are affordable enough

– as most of matte lipstick it dries the lips so make sure you apply a balm before
– don’t be fooled that it’s long lasting (for some reason I always think they should be) – it lasts a little bit longer on the lips than a creamy lipstick but not too long

I’m pretty sure that NYX has not rocked my world, but overall it’s an ok product and if you have not tried NYX products yet it might be a good place to start.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way! 🙂

October empties

Hello beauties,

So, another month has passed and the time has come to see the empties of that month with good and the bad and a lot of products apparently, most of them previously reviewed. Let’s get started:

  • Elmiplant Senses Touch shower gel – this shower gel got a lot of attention at launch this summer but I’m not sure it deserved it as I’ve been using this for a couple of months and didn’t get the feeling it was doing more than any other shower gel. So no great deal about it, I didn’t feel it deserved a separate post; average drugstore product, but you can try it in lack of inspiration.
  • Herbamedicus hand creme – this was reviewed here; bottom line: it was nice to try but I will never buy this hand cream anyway
  • Vaseline body lotion – I’ve been having this body lotion during my holiday and using it as hand cream on a general basis. Although the product is mostly a sample that was meant for maximum two uses, I’ve managed to stretch it for almost two months and I declare it to be an interesting product, interesting enough to buy it again
  • Nivea powder touch antiperspirant

  • Plantur 39 shampoo – it is not the first time I mention this kind of shampoo with caffeine (read about it here) but I’m going to let it not be re-purchased as I haven’t seen any increasing effect on my hair. But that doesn’t make it a bad shampoo, just to expensive for a non-reachable purpose.
  • Batiste dry shampoo for light & blonde hair– for the classic Batiste dry shampoo you can read the full review here. As you can see, I’ve been trying their different products for a while and I can say that this one is my favorite so far – it has the perks of the Batiste dry shampoos, the fragrance is ok, but the main advantage is the fact that the powder has a nice blonde coloration so your hair will look and feel fuller. Trust me, it’s a deal.

  • Nivea Soothing cleaning mousse – I got along just fine with this cleaning product and if I will fail to have inspiration for something new, I will probably buy this again; You can read the full review here.
  • Apivita natural serum with resveratrol and vitamin E – Considering their price I expected it to be some kind of wonder serum but apart from a nice hydration of the areas where I’ve applied it (forehead, neck, cleavage) I didn’t notice any anti-aging effect. So, bottom line, it will not be a repurchase; for the full review, click here.

  • Yves Rocher -Correction base – Not much to say but another try and fail from Yves Rocher. Somehow these products keep on failing to convince me they are worth the investment as you can find on the market cheaper products that deliver better results.
  • Benefit Some Kind-a Gorgeous – Here goes my first experience with creme foundations, and it was not a bad one either; you can read the full review here.
  • Maybelline Falsies Volum Express – I’m a big, big fan of Maybelline mascaras, and I’m so please to try their products every time; you can read about this one here.
  • NYX Photo Loving Primer – finally it’s empty and you can read it’s full review here.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

NYX Love in Paris

nyxMy first experience with NYX eye-shadows was not a very fortunate one as I was in search of a dupe after a MAC taupe single eye-shadow. But this is a story for other time. Bottom line, I gave NYX another chance with their palettes and I was not disappointed.

This is a palette from NYX Spring 2013 collection so it’s not new but I had a chance to buy it recently at a discounted price and I’ve been using it ever since in different occasions: at work, at different parties or clubs and even at a baptism party.

  • out of the 9 shades that the palette contains the size of a post stamp, you have many possibilities for different natural or smokey eyes makeup looks
  • blended properly, these color will resist flawlessly up to 12 hours of hard conditions (yes, there was such a party)
  • smooth and pigmented
  • great for travelling, but mostly for short weekends

  • being limited to only 9 nude colors (out of which only 2 grays, the rest are brown nude-ish variations) you can easily get bored

My rating: 7.5/10. If you come across this palette just give it a try and let me tell you how was your personal experience.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

NYX Studio Perfect Photo Loving Primer

Hello ladies!

I hope your spring is full of wonderful events. Mine seems lately to be purely busy and I’m in constant worry that I’m not going to be present on the blog as I wished. Don’t worry, things are (still) under control.

For every busy lady out there, in my opinion, whether you like full coverage and makeup all the way or just a sheer foundation, primers are a must for keeping the perfect make-up composed all day long.  I’ve bought NYX Studio Perfect Photo Loving green primer a month ago and I’ve been  using it ever since. At first, I was not that excited about it but somehow it grew on me  and now my opinion is divided.

  • easy to apply
  • lightweight
  • gives your skin a very nice silky sensation
  • I didn’t notice any acne breakouts or any irritation
  • it is long-lasting, but depends on how long you are aiming for (eg. a full day at the office plus overtime, that’s too long)
  • it does (slightly) improve the matte appearance but not as much as one would expect from a product named “Studio Perfect” (I mean, we all seek that Photoshop effect not, Shinny bling-bling skin)

  • the green is only for artistic presence as it does not diminish any redness
  • does nothing for covering the pores. They are still there, still showing.

My rating: 6.5/10. I think that NYX really could have done better with this product.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

April empties

Hello, beauties!

April has been a busy month for me with a lot of products that I’m gonna say good bye to. Some of them I’m going to repurchase some of them were a total waste of my money. So out with the old:

Face &Body

Yves Rocher Beaute des Mains. Hand care is very important to me, although hands are most of the times left out from beauty routines (in terms of moisturizing or applying sun screen). After I wash my hands, every time, with no exception, I will use a hand cream. This is why I have a hand cream everywhere: in my purse, in my bathroom, in every other drawer, in the car, in my boyfriend’s car:) and so on. This hand cream from Yves Rocher has helped me through the office winter and the best thing I can say about it, oh, that perfume. Well, that’s an irritant, I know. You know what else? Alcohol and sodium hydroxide. Overall it was an ok hand cream, but not very gentle with the skin.

After this month I’m going to skip the Effaclar Micellar Water (review). it has been a very nice thermal water for my oily sensitive skin, I’ve almost forgot I have problems, but out of all the micellar waters that I’ve tried, I believe this one from La Roche Posay does the weakest job in the cleaning department. This is why I’ve always used it with Nivea  Eye make-up remover (review).

Floritene Serum Face Lift – I’ve found this product recently in my search for effective anti-age products as it contains hyaluronic acid and AHA. All I can say is that I saw the results immediately,  but, although I did not feel any side effect, I’ve noticed that this serum contained a lot of irritating agents.

As long as we are talking about Nivea, it’s their antiperspirant that is emptied this month, the Invisible for Black&White. Not much to say, other than it delivers. Also I’m a big fan of their lip butters – the last one being Pure&Natural Olive&Lemon Lip Care. Funky fresh smell, extra green color but it helped my lips stay soft and moisturized on a daily basis.

Another product from Yves Rocher that I’m going to renounce to is Peau Parfaite BB Cream. All I can say about it is good riddance, you’ve wasted my money and my skin.It is not actually empty but I could not use it no more. First, it was the smell – like old’s people medicine cabinet. Then, the coverage, close to non-existent which on my skin is a VIP ticket to disaster and the SPF (what? who? I don’t understand). Overall I felt with a paint application on my face, but the paint wasn’t blended that well.

E.L.F. Mineral Infused Face Primer  – I was sad when this ran out, because I can say this is the most re-purchased product from E.L.F. because I use primers as part of my everyday makeup due to my oily sensitive skin. It has been a fiend in need, decent product, does not perform miracles but I think it stands the endurance test for a lot of events. It is not the same thing I can say about E.L.F. Eyelid Primer that generally speaking hasn’t help me much, eye shadows creasing and caking at their own free will.

Given the fact that I use lipstick every day, if I would have to choose my top 3 lip glosses this Sexy Motherpucker Lip Plumping Gloss from Soap &Glory would be in it as one of my va va voom secrets. The gloss here is What a Melon, it was a soft glittery pink with a nice tingling sensation on my lips and a non-sticky formula (as non-sticky it can be for a lip gloss). And yes, your lips get bigger; and if not, they are prettier.

I’ve bought this NYX HD Photogenic Concealer  because it was recommended to me by people that sell this product here as a primer. It is not a primer, it’s a concealer, helloo! I’ve bought it in green for my redness problem, but nevertheless it did’t cover very well. I found out it didn’t blend very well either and it was quite drying.

Maybelline One by One Volume Express – this mascara I really, really loved (review). I am sorry to be parted and I truly hope that until I will buy this product again, they will keep it in their list.

Essence Bronzing Star I’ve had it for a while now but now we must part, as I dropped it on the floor and it is in an irrecoverable mess. It had a nice color and pigmentation, it was very easily blended, doesn’t have any shimmer but it didn’t last that long on your face.

That’s all for April empties.

Until next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

NYX The Caribbean Collection

Hello ladies! I hope your spring has been so far of beautiful surprises.
Mine surely is as I have recently found out my childhood friend is going to marry next year in June and I’m so happy for her.

Talk about surprises – this NYX palette was bought in a sale rush ( I know, it’s not smart shopping, but be honest at least and say you like those too) not knowing what to expect. I understand now that the color combination is vast in the Caribbean Collection but the one I chose it is called Dream of Aruba. This is an incredible collection of neutral colors and this palette has becomed part of my daily makeup routine because it is so easy to work with. It’s a no-brainer!

The pallete contains a copper, a rusty red, a gold, a bronze and a yellowish taupe shadow. All have a very nice shimmer and they are perfect for whatever event you are using them ( work, a night out, etc).

– highly pigmented
– soft texture
– long lasting
– hypoallergenic
– package is perfect for travel

– you’d better use them with a primer
– sponge applicator is useless

Overall, this is a product that I would recommend having it around in your makeup drawer.

My rating: 8/10.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

Weekend beauty haul

Hello ladies!

Whenever I have a moment of not knowing state of mind (what to wear, what’s my next favorite make-up, etc) I go shopping.

This month I’ve decided that my hair needed some pampering so MorrocanOil treatment for fine hair was the next step. This is a product that I’ve wanted so bad and it is over-hyped on the Internet so when I’ve found a site with a substantial sale I could not help myself.

Chubby lipsticks are invading drugstores and hypermarkets this spring and I’ve stumbled upon an offer from Astor (approx. 3€ ) for their Soft Sensation Lipcolor Butter. I could not resist this orange shade: Feeling Feline.
And because this lipstick was not as nourishing as I’ve imagined, I got this drugstore lip balm from Himalaia Herbals. It smells divine and really helps your drying and chapping lips.

I’m not much of a makeup palettes fan, but this NYX Caribbean Collection has caught my eyes with 5 gorgeous neutral shades, their best selling eye shadows. It is very pretty and I will come with a review very soon. And what’s a makeup palette without some good brushes? I’m a big Pixiwoo fan so it had to be Real Techniques. I have the Core Collection and now I’ve bought the Starter Set for eyes.

I’m a daily primer consumer and because of my skin condition I like color correct primers. Preferably silicon based as my oily skin sometimes is very difficult to work with. I’ve decided to give NYX another chance with Studio Perfect Photo Loving Primer.

As you see, my budget was safe this month but I will have a lot of reviews to come back at.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

February Favorites

You could say that February was definitely a month for beauty 101 as I finally bought myself the Core Collection. I mean, it’s never too late, is it? As a result, I have concentrated my efforts into makeup.

This is the month when I discovered this wonderful powder blush from NYX Cosmetics (Peach shade). Generally, I am not a big fan of blushes due to my complexion (fair skin, naturally dark blond hair, with a little too rosy cheeks you’ve got a Heidi wanna be). But the main advantage of this blush is that it has a soft pigment that makes it very discreet on your face when you blend it well. Downside: it’s a slightly powdery.

For mascara, I have finally come to the conclusion that Maybelline kicks asses! Currently I am using One by One Volum Express. This is my third kind of mascara from Maybelline that I am trying and  it has it all: the right dosage, one of the best brushes, natural look and for a drugstore product they are great.

L’Oreal Accord Parfait liquid foundation has been my “partner in crime” for two months now. Although my skin is very fine for a 32 years old person, occasionally I have problems with blemishes. This foundation has a very natural color, it covers so well and it’s perfectly adapted for oily skin types. Cons: not as resistant on your face as I read on so many blogs. Oh, well, for a product that I;ve bought in the spur of the moment, it was a very wise choice.

Last but not least, Honeymania shower gel is a recent acquisition from Body Shop. I am a big fan of honey based products. This one has a rich heathen flavor that reminds me of wildflowers and musk. The skin remains soft with a discreet happiness scent.

Until next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)
