MaxFactor Facefinity Primer

Hello beauties,

During winter my sensitive face becomes impossible to handle: redness and dryness on my cheeks and the usual oily T zone plus the extreme oily eye lids. So it’s a circus with a constant fierce battle against forces of nature (pam-pam!). One of the key ingredients in this process is a good primer, and you know that I’m constantly trying new products in search for the perfect one but usually I end up using two kinds of primers (depending on the area that I apply) or just one targeting a specific zone. Recently, MaxFactor Facefinity Primer became available in Romanian stores and I (being a MaxFactor fan) decided to try it as it is basically MaxFactor 3 in 1 Facefinity Flawless Foundation but without the foundation and everybody is swearing by it.

  • packaging – the product comes in a bottle with a pump dispenser, similar in appearance and size to the ones used for foundation
  • sun protection – you will benefit from the product’s SPF 20
  • texture – the product it feels silicone free but it does contain silicone and is slightly moisturizing
  • price – it’s a drugstore product, so you’ll probably save at least half the money you would have spent on POREessional or any other expensive primer for that matter

  • does not perform wonders in terms of blurring the pores
  • it does prolong the wear of the foundation but I cannot count on it for an all-day-and-night marathon
  • does not interact well with some foundations – for instance if I’m using MUFE or La Roche Posay the oily skin will have different bulky sections that will not look good as an overall

As you might have guessed, I’m not impressed by this product but it may be a my skin is in constant battle against itself and a performing primer is a must; but it might not be such a hard case for normal skin types that will probably get along very easy with this product.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

Benefit Porefessional

This primer was recommended to me by a friend of mine recently struggling to enter the beauty industry as a makeup artist. I know it slowly begins to become a cult product because there are many of us out there that dread the fact that their makeup starts running wild at lunchtime but nevertheless I put it to the test.

  • beautiful package, as most products from Benefit have
  • it’s a silicone based primer so it’s ideal for mixed or oily faces
  • having so much silicone, it does reduce the appearance of the large pores
  • very silky finish
  • gives the makeup an endurance for all 8 hours working day or for the whole night at the club

  • a little expensive for my taste, but you can always ask for the travel size when buying it
  • having so much silicone under a constant use it can definitely lead to clogged pores so I would not recommend it for a daily use
  • as for fine lines, I haven’t seen any progress there

My rating: 7.5/10. It’s a good primer, it generally does what it says but I’m not really convinced by that too much silicone. Maybe it’s just me and you need to try it on yourselves.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

Too Faced – Primed & Poreless Skin Smoothing Face Primer

Primers – can’t live without them. As in thought of the day. I’ve decided to talk about primers as today I’m going to a wedding and I’ve been thinking a lot about the makeup I’m going to wear. I’ll let you know how it went.

The primer from Too Faced is basically my first kind of primer that I’ve ever used. And I’ve been using primers a lot. So this review might be somehow biased by this experience, but you’ll understand that I’ve tried to be as objective as possible:

  • it’s an oil free primer, so for you sensitive, mixed or oily skins out there it’s your type
  • it has a pink nude color but the result on the skin is quite pleasant, as could be worn as a standalone product
  • thick texture and matte finish
  • does a good job in covering the pores
  • no odor

  • you’d have to be careful in applying an even and thin layer, otherwise it’s going to ball up
  • slightly priced for the overall result it delivers
  • not so long lasting, depends on the day

My rating: somewhere between 7 and 7.5. Currently I’m using this primer only on my eyelids, otherwise on the whole face it’s not a great primer.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

NYX Studio Perfect Photo Loving Primer

Hello ladies!

I hope your spring is full of wonderful events. Mine seems lately to be purely busy and I’m in constant worry that I’m not going to be present on the blog as I wished. Don’t worry, things are (still) under control.

For every busy lady out there, in my opinion, whether you like full coverage and makeup all the way or just a sheer foundation, primers are a must for keeping the perfect make-up composed all day long.  I’ve bought NYX Studio Perfect Photo Loving green primer a month ago and I’ve been  using it ever since. At first, I was not that excited about it but somehow it grew on me  and now my opinion is divided.

  • easy to apply
  • lightweight
  • gives your skin a very nice silky sensation
  • I didn’t notice any acne breakouts or any irritation
  • it is long-lasting, but depends on how long you are aiming for (eg. a full day at the office plus overtime, that’s too long)
  • it does (slightly) improve the matte appearance but not as much as one would expect from a product named “Studio Perfect” (I mean, we all seek that Photoshop effect not, Shinny bling-bling skin)

  • the green is only for artistic presence as it does not diminish any redness
  • does nothing for covering the pores. They are still there, still showing.

My rating: 6.5/10. I think that NYX really could have done better with this product.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

MakeUp For Ever HD Primer

Not so long ago, I started a new approach in my quest for a smart beauty buying process: shop small quantities that you can usually find as collections of core products to decide if that product is worth the trouble and the money, as they often don’t come cheap.

Also, in my makeup bag you will always find at least 5 or 6 primers as  I like to swap products regularly but I basically focus on products that are super easy to apply, either give you that super health glow or have a lot of silicone in order for my oily prone skin to be tamed.

MUFE HD microperfecting primer seemed perfectly integrated into this picture.

– it’s skin super-friendly with a light texture that doesn’t choke every cell on your face
– versatile package: plastic bottle with a little pump that gives you just the right amount of primer to cover the whole face

– don’t get your hopes high, it’s an  expensive product.
– it doesn’t make my everyday makeup look any better or last longer than without a primer
– no plus regarding oil control either; actually it is like applying the makeup just after the moisturizer.

My rating:6/10 (as I give them benefit of a doubt that there are people who actually like this primer).

Stop by to share your thoughts about MUFE HD primer.

Until next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

Max Factor FaceFinity All Day Flawless

Somehow, lately all I’m talking about are face foundations in my perpetual search for a product that can last all day in the office harsh environment, it’s friendly to your skin and has just the right coverage for a natural look.

As I had a very happy experience with MaxFactor and their CC Cream (review: here), I decided to try one of their most appraised foundations: FaceFinity All Day Flawless 3 in 1 Foundation and also went for the same shade (Natural 50). Although this product is not a novelty on the market, it had some characteristics that appealed to me: a promise of a right mix between a primer, a concealer and foundation and a decent SPF 20.

  • natural finish
  • no matter how much product you’l apply, it will not look heavy nor cakey
  • good medium coverage
  • lasts better on my face that other drugstore foundations (I always try all foundations with primers as base and setting powders)
  • Natural shade has been a match for my skin color
  • not so much of a fragrance

  • the product is not that easy to blend (I’ve noticed that I spend almost double the time with this foundation compared to others)
  • the result is not quite matte, so if you have oily skin maybe try some powder after putting the foundation.
  • the package: once the seal is removed, the lid never closes properly.

My rating: 8.5/10. Would I re-purchase this product again? Yes but I would love for MaxFactor to improve this product.

Until next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

April empties

Hello, beauties!

April has been a busy month for me with a lot of products that I’m gonna say good bye to. Some of them I’m going to repurchase some of them were a total waste of my money. So out with the old:

Face &Body

Yves Rocher Beaute des Mains. Hand care is very important to me, although hands are most of the times left out from beauty routines (in terms of moisturizing or applying sun screen). After I wash my hands, every time, with no exception, I will use a hand cream. This is why I have a hand cream everywhere: in my purse, in my bathroom, in every other drawer, in the car, in my boyfriend’s car:) and so on. This hand cream from Yves Rocher has helped me through the office winter and the best thing I can say about it, oh, that perfume. Well, that’s an irritant, I know. You know what else? Alcohol and sodium hydroxide. Overall it was an ok hand cream, but not very gentle with the skin.

After this month I’m going to skip the Effaclar Micellar Water (review). it has been a very nice thermal water for my oily sensitive skin, I’ve almost forgot I have problems, but out of all the micellar waters that I’ve tried, I believe this one from La Roche Posay does the weakest job in the cleaning department. This is why I’ve always used it with Nivea  Eye make-up remover (review).

Floritene Serum Face Lift – I’ve found this product recently in my search for effective anti-age products as it contains hyaluronic acid and AHA. All I can say is that I saw the results immediately,  but, although I did not feel any side effect, I’ve noticed that this serum contained a lot of irritating agents.

As long as we are talking about Nivea, it’s their antiperspirant that is emptied this month, the Invisible for Black&White. Not much to say, other than it delivers. Also I’m a big fan of their lip butters – the last one being Pure&Natural Olive&Lemon Lip Care. Funky fresh smell, extra green color but it helped my lips stay soft and moisturized on a daily basis.

Another product from Yves Rocher that I’m going to renounce to is Peau Parfaite BB Cream. All I can say about it is good riddance, you’ve wasted my money and my skin.It is not actually empty but I could not use it no more. First, it was the smell – like old’s people medicine cabinet. Then, the coverage, close to non-existent which on my skin is a VIP ticket to disaster and the SPF (what? who? I don’t understand). Overall I felt with a paint application on my face, but the paint wasn’t blended that well.

E.L.F. Mineral Infused Face Primer  – I was sad when this ran out, because I can say this is the most re-purchased product from E.L.F. because I use primers as part of my everyday makeup due to my oily sensitive skin. It has been a fiend in need, decent product, does not perform miracles but I think it stands the endurance test for a lot of events. It is not the same thing I can say about E.L.F. Eyelid Primer that generally speaking hasn’t help me much, eye shadows creasing and caking at their own free will.

Given the fact that I use lipstick every day, if I would have to choose my top 3 lip glosses this Sexy Motherpucker Lip Plumping Gloss from Soap &Glory would be in it as one of my va va voom secrets. The gloss here is What a Melon, it was a soft glittery pink with a nice tingling sensation on my lips and a non-sticky formula (as non-sticky it can be for a lip gloss). And yes, your lips get bigger; and if not, they are prettier.

I’ve bought this NYX HD Photogenic Concealer  because it was recommended to me by people that sell this product here as a primer. It is not a primer, it’s a concealer, helloo! I’ve bought it in green for my redness problem, but nevertheless it did’t cover very well. I found out it didn’t blend very well either and it was quite drying.

Maybelline One by One Volume Express – this mascara I really, really loved (review). I am sorry to be parted and I truly hope that until I will buy this product again, they will keep it in their list.

Essence Bronzing Star I’ve had it for a while now but now we must part, as I dropped it on the floor and it is in an irrecoverable mess. It had a nice color and pigmentation, it was very easily blended, doesn’t have any shimmer but it didn’t last that long on your face.

That’s all for April empties.

Until next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

Weekend beauty haul

Hello ladies!

Whenever I have a moment of not knowing state of mind (what to wear, what’s my next favorite make-up, etc) I go shopping.

This month I’ve decided that my hair needed some pampering so MorrocanOil treatment for fine hair was the next step. This is a product that I’ve wanted so bad and it is over-hyped on the Internet so when I’ve found a site with a substantial sale I could not help myself.

Chubby lipsticks are invading drugstores and hypermarkets this spring and I’ve stumbled upon an offer from Astor (approx. 3€ ) for their Soft Sensation Lipcolor Butter. I could not resist this orange shade: Feeling Feline.
And because this lipstick was not as nourishing as I’ve imagined, I got this drugstore lip balm from Himalaia Herbals. It smells divine and really helps your drying and chapping lips.

I’m not much of a makeup palettes fan, but this NYX Caribbean Collection has caught my eyes with 5 gorgeous neutral shades, their best selling eye shadows. It is very pretty and I will come with a review very soon. And what’s a makeup palette without some good brushes? I’m a big Pixiwoo fan so it had to be Real Techniques. I have the Core Collection and now I’ve bought the Starter Set for eyes.

I’m a daily primer consumer and because of my skin condition I like color correct primers. Preferably silicon based as my oily skin sometimes is very difficult to work with. I’ve decided to give NYX another chance with Studio Perfect Photo Loving Primer.

As you see, my budget was safe this month but I will have a lot of reviews to come back at.

Until the next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)

The ELF purchases

I’m sure I’m not the only one acting obsessive -compulsive when it comes to make-up. To eliminate this need and not to leave my pockets empty, I usually find myself ordering from Eyes Lips Face.

So, a couple of days ago I did just that. Among the things I just “needed to have” were two eyeliners (one brown and another one with glitter), an angled brush for eyeliner and a high definition setting powder. For my purchases, they gave me an eyelid primer.

As for their quality, I’ve had eyeliners from ELF and let me tell you that they are paying their money’s worth although the brown one seems a little bit too watery.

The brush is just a purchase in the spur of the moment, it’s not exactly what I want from an eyeliner brush -doesn’t look very steady and well build – but for some make-up looks I guess it will do.

I’ve bought the setting powder after reading a lot of positive reviews on the net about it. What always bugs me about ELF products is the packages size: I mean for 5 € what I’ve paid on thid powder the case is sooo tinny. Well, that means a review about this product will soon come.

The primer as I’ve said, it was a bonus from their side. I’ve previously used this kind of primer, but I’m not generally happy about it. For my oily skin I don’t see it makes much of a difference in terms of all day long make-up but from people with dry skin I’ve also heard positive reviews. I guess you have to try this one for yourself.

Until next time, wear red lipstick and glitter all the way:-)
